Join us for a very special evening of poetry and music with "The Mad Angler meets the
Mad Cellist", featuring Michael Delp and Crispin Campbell. This moving and expressive
performance will feature Delp’s Mad Angler poems paired with Campbell on cello.
Delp was an instructor of creative writing at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. Delp's
literary works have been recognized and highlighted at Michigan State University in
their Michigan Writers Series. He is known for writing about nature, especially fishing
and water. Crispin Campbell is the principal cellist of the Traverse City Symphony
Orchestra and a retired Instructor of Cello at Interlochen Arts Academy.
Poet Delp and cellist Campbell team up for this performance that provides Delp's alter
ego, The Mad Angler, whose magical vignettes counterbalanced with Campbell's cello
improvisations, with The Mad Cellist echoing the sounds of the river, the raucous calls
of the crows, and the down and dirty earthiness of the blues.
Also featured will be master Dobro player Joe Wilson of Steppin' In It, and inventive
jazz pianist Steve Stargardt who will be joining Campbell in the interludes between the
poetry of The Mad Angler.
This unique program celebrates the living nature of water, Michigan's most precious
resource, in an evening of humor, irreverence, sincerity and profound truth.
