Aspiring actor Cicely (Jake-Ann Jones) has just secured her first major role, but when she learns it requires a nude scene, she is forced to confront long buried traumas. Growing up in the shadow of her mother, a Blaxploitation star known for her vivacious sexuality, Cicely has long struggled with body dysmorphia. Dedicated to her big break, Cicely attempts to hold on to her role as she sets out to find the courage to disrobe on camera. Part of the 1990s boom of Black independent cinema, director Bridgett M. Davis’ only feature film is a smart exploration of a Black woman’s inner life and sexuality.
This screening will be preceded by a musical performance from Stephens College alumna Mina Stone.
