Partly inspired by his own middle-class childhood, Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma follows a year-in-the-life of Cleo (Yalitza Aparicio), a live-in Indigenous maid in Mexico City’s Colonia Roma neighborhood. A beautifully-shot work of social realism, Roma centers Cleo’s perspective as she provides emotional and domestic labor to the family she works for and enjoys her personal life outside of the home. This screening will be followed by a community conversation led by the Cambio Center exploring topics such as Indigenous representation in Latin America, women’s rights, and social change.
