Patricio Guzmán’s tour-de-force three-part The Battle of Chile chronicles Chile’s peaceful socialist revolution and the violent counter-revolution that sought to destroy it through using the camera to mediate political action. Part 1, The Insurrection of the Bourgeoisie, depicts the turn to violence among the politically right after the surprise victory of the political left during Congressional elections in March 1973. Part 2, The Coup D’Etat, opens with a failed military coup in June 1973 and concludes with the bloody coup of President Salvador Allende's democratically elected Chilean government on September 11, 1973. Parts 1 and 2 will be shown together as one program separated by a 10-minute intermission.
