Facilitated by professional filmmakers Alix Diaconis & Brian Gerston, and Darrin Butland, EBIS Cinema Arts Teacher, with The Moviehouse's Jeremy Boviard.


This month students from Eugene Brooks Intermediate School, Webutuck CSD participated in our student filmmaking bootcamp - a short, intensive 2-day program designed to provide students with hands-on training in various aspects of filmmaking, including writing, directing, shooting, and editing. The condensed schedule and focus on practical experience, allows students to learn the fundamentals of filmmaking quickly.

Alix Diaconis


Alix Diaconis is a freelance video editor, videographer, and photographer based in Millerton, New York. Alix's TV credits include Beach Cottage Chronicles, the Telly-award winning show on HBO and Magnolia Network, as well as shows for ESPN, Vox Media, Bloomberg, Atlas Obscura, and BRIC. She has also edited documentary work for Oscar-nominated and Cannes-winning directors. In 2023, she received two Webby Awards for her video work at Vox Media. Are You Glad I'm Here, a feature film edited by Alix, won the 2018 Brooklyn Film Festival Audience Award and screened in the U.S., Lebanon, and London. Alix graduated from Bard College with a degree in Film while working as a 35mm film projectionist. She attributes her love of filmmaking to her local public access station, where she got her start.



Brian Gersten is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, film editor, and teacher based in Millerton, NY. Much of Brian's work has screened at top-tier festivals around the globe and can be seen on the likes of Netflix, HBO, PBS, Amazon Prime, and Peacock. His work has been written about and featured in the New York Times, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Forbes, Variety, and on CBS Sunday Morning. In 2019, Brian edited his first feature documentary Searching for Mr. Rugoff, which is 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and currently streaming on the Criterion Channel. In addition to Radical Wolfe, Brian's most recent feature documentary editing credits include Enter The Slipstream, a sports documentary that follows the EF Pro Cycling team through the 2020 Tour de France. Brian has also taught filmmaking courses and workshops at Rutgers University, Northwestern University, Wake Forest University, and the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies. When he is not working on films, Brian is shoveling compost at his partner's flower farm in Stanfordville, NY.
