Panel Discussion and Talkback
Join us for the red carpet premiere of this film tribute to Lexington's East End. Celebrate local stories and the people who help tell them. Dress up, walk the red carpet, and enjoy a short fictional film inspired by real stories from residents in Lexington’s First District. After the film, stick around for a panel discussion, and a community reception with good food, music, and time to connect.
This event is supported by Community Inspired Lexington, LexArts, VisitLEX, Blue Grass Community Foundation, and The Kentucky Theatre.
ABOUT THE FILM
Set in Lexington’s East End, Everything In Its Place follows Amarr Coleman (Emannuel Thurman), a successful Chicago-based artist who has returned home after the passing of his beloved grandmother, Linda Coleman (Claudia Love Mair). Amarr finds himself still in Lexington a month after the funeral, struggling to wrap up family affairs. When an old friend (Martina Barksdale) visits him, Amarr is forced to re-explore the neighborhood, his memories, and the many characters that reflect the history, beauty, and complexity of home.
Everything In Its Place is a love letter to the East End — its people, its culture, and its resilience. It’s about finding belonging, understanding one's legacy, and remembering that every voice and every block has a story worth telling.

WHAT IS THE ROOTS & REELS FILM PROJECT?
A creative, community-driven film project that brings together local artists and residents to create an original short film inspired by the real stories, memories, and histories of Black Lexingtonians in the First District.
Through a five-week storytelling workshop, participants explored intergenerational storytelling methods, reflected on their ties to place, and collaborated to shape a fictional script grounded in shared community experiences and local Black identity. Jamari Turner, Producer and Program Director is a Lexington native.
