MARYAM TOUZANI | MOROCCO, FRANCE, SPAIN, GERMANY, BELGIUM | 2025 | 116 MIN | SPANISH, ARABIC
Maria Angeles is a 79-year-old Spanish woman who has built a quiet but fulfilling life in an apartment in Tangier, Morocco. Her belongings and memories anchor her sense of self until her daughter, burdened by financial struggles, insists on selling the family home that legally bears her name. Overnight, Maria’s independence is threatened, her possessions scattered, and her choices narrowed to returning to Spain with her daughter or entering a nursing home in Tangier. But Maria refuses to go quietly. Determined to hold on to the dignity and autonomy she’s earned, she pushes back, staking her claim to her final years on her own terms. In the process, she rediscovers not only her resilience but also an unexpected capacity for new love and desire, feelings she thought were long behind her. Starring iconic Spanish actress Carmen Maura, whose career has spanned six decades, this moving drama offers a stirring reflection on aging, memory, and the right to shape one’s own ending.
