Description

Co-presented with Dismal Niche and Disarm Cinema, this special screening brings together two experimental works, New York Eye and Ear Control (1964) and Wavelength (1967), from preeminent Canadian avant-garde/experimental filmmaker Michael Snow on 16mm. Snow’s breakthrough film, Wavelength, zooms into the interior of a loft space from a fixed camera space as action unfolds. Set to a free jazz-score performed by Albert Ayler, Don Cherry, and others, New York Eye and Ear Control explores image, sound, and space with a cutout silhouette of a woman placed in varying locations. Well-known for his experiments in both music and film, Michael Snow’s oeuvre explores the nature of perception. Guest programmed by Alex Cunningham.
