After escaping from her overbearing father, a shapeshifting goldfish girl gets rescued by young boy Sosuke, who lives on a clifftop overlooking the sea. Sosuke names her Ponyo and vows to keep her safe. Ponyo wishes to remain human, but, little do they know, the longer Ponyo stays out of water, the more her powers disrupt the balance of nature. The eighth film from writer and director Hayao Miyazaki with Studio Ghibli, Ponyo was a major commercial success, receiving critical acclaim for its uplifting themes, visual design, and its appeal towards all audiences.
