In 1936, globe-trotting archaeologist Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is sent on a mission to recover the long-lost Ark of the Covenant. The Ark is said to make any army invincible, so Jones must stop his rival archaeologist from guiding the Nazis to the Ark and its power. This action-adventure film, directed by Steven Spielberg and co-written by George Lucas, is the beginning of the Indiana Jones franchise, which now spans five films, multiple video games, various novels and comic books. Raiders of the Lost Ark won five Academy Awards and is considered a touchstone of modern adventure cinema for its humor, practical effects, stunts, and the amusing and unusual characters.
