The American Soldier is a piece of theater made to HONOR our veterans and military families.
Douglas Taurel says, “My goal, as the creator of this play, is to elevate these stories and remind us all of what we all have in common as Americans.” The play is decidedly not a political play, but a profoundly human story- a piece of theater that honors our veterans and their families and deepens our collective understanding of their experiences.
The American Soldier invites audiences to journey through the American story. It reveals the American soldiers’ struggles at war and explores the bravery our veterans and their families exhibit when veterans return home and try to re-enter civilian life. As explored through the lives of 15 different Veterans and their family members, the play follows real stories based on factual accounts from actual Soldiers and family member’s letters written from the American Revolution through current day Afghanistan. The American Soldier is the American story of many men and women who don the uniform with a willingness to fight, defend, and pay the ultimate sacrifice for our country’s freedoms.
