In the 1950s, a boy discovers that he can control the global telephone system by whistling a magic tone. Born blind and yearning for connection, Joybubbles’s obsession with the telephone ushers in a subculture that would shape the future of hacking and technology. Told through archival footage and Joybubbles’s own voice recordings, this documentary from Director Rachael J. Morrison celebrates the life of a visionary who redefined connection and challenged conventional notions about disability, identity, and imagination.
This screening of Joybubbles is presented as part of Gotham Week Honors “Best Film Coming to a Theater Near You,” in partnership with The Gotham and Art House Convergence. Joybubbles will be presented with open audio descriptions and open captions.
