Description

17-year-old Murat (Baki Davrak), from Turkey but living in the Turkish district of Kreuzberg, Berlin, with his mother and older brother, is at a crossroads with his sexuality and relentlessly bullied by German neo-Nazis. When Murat learns that he has another older brother, Lola (Gandi Mukli), a drag queen part of an all Turkish troupe called “The Migrant Workers,” who was disowned by the family because of his sexuality, the two reunited brothers quickly develop a bond. However, when Lola mysteriously disappears, Murat is pulled into a seedy underworld by Lola’s “macho” boyfriend Billy the Kid (Erdal Yildiz). Directed by Turkish filmmaker Kutlug Ataman, Lola and Billy the Kid is a dark look into the difficulties facing queer immigrants in Germany, both from within their own communities and outside of it.
