The search for something lost is an important element of many of history's greatest films. The shorts in this collection continue that tradition. We chose them for their creativity and powerful narratives. They exemplify the challenge, the hardship and sometimes the comedy of losing and finding.

Description

"Encore" is an off-kilter, dramatic thriller about a mother pushing her son toward musical greatness. Emmett, a young piano prodigy, practices incessantly, even in the bathtub. His mother pushes her son in preparation for the big recital. But when Emmett discovers his dead father’s history as an opera singer — and sees how his mother obsesses over his death — we realize Emmett’s true desire: he wants to sing. At night, Emmett must elude his mother in order to hone his voice. Day of the recital, Emmett must decide to stand up to his mother the only way he knows how — through music.
