Stanislaus County Commission for Women and The State Theater present Against All Odds: Celebrating the Remarkable Refugee Spirit of Women

A panel of dynamic women who have recently immigrated to Modesto will share their unique stories, struggles, and successes. In addition, Thelma Saldivar, MJC Photography student, will present her photo exhibition, "Letters Home." The evening will culminate in a viewing of The Swimmers, a biographical drama that illuminates the refugee experience and shows a young athlete’s determination to succeed against all odds. The Swimmers tells the true story of two sisters’ journey to escape the war engulfing their country to pursue Yusra’s dream of making it to the Olympics. Your ticket purchase will include a delicious array of appetizers and desserts provided by Afghan female local caterers. Join us for an evening of celebrating the remarkable refugee female spirit!
