The Makanaaloha Group has roots dating back to 2004 and is founded by Modesto-Native Rick San Nicolas. This family-run company has a deep commitment to preserving and perpetuating the cultural heritage of the Hawaiian people. The Makanaaloha Group is renowned for producing The George Na’ope Hula Festival, an annual hula competition in Sacramento that celebrates the essence of Hawaiian tradition. Rick San Nicolas, a world-renowned expert in Hawaiian feather work, exemplifies the group's vision through his dedication to cultural preservation. The 'Malama Lahaina' fundraiser holds immense importance for The Makanaaloha Group, as it aligns with their core values of safeguarding and sharing the rich legacy of the Hawaiian culture for generations to come.

Guiding us through the event is 'Anakala 'Iokepa De Santos, a true guardian of Hawaiian knowledge. Fluent in 'Olelo Hawai’i (Hawaiian language), he's also one half of the George Na'ope Hula Festival emcee duo, bringing his deep cultural insights to enrich the evening.

Amidst the event’s captivating ambiance, E Honu Iti E will showcase their authentic Tahitian performance. Guided by Renee Ontai Ah Yo, this Tracy-based group embodies the lively essence of Tahitian culture through their dance.
Contributing to the event's diverse cultural experience, Halau Pa’akea Wai Lehua, directed by Kumu Wanda Pa’akea Akiu, will take the stage. Recognized as the overall champion at the 14th annual George Na’ope Hula Festival, this halau, hailing from Oahu and California, will present their entrancing hula performance. Ke Ao Lani 'O Kamaile, under the guidance of Kumu Shawna Bresler, will also join the lineup. These groups will demonstrate both their exceptional talent and deep respect for the heritage woven into this captivating art form.
To further elevate the evening, we are honored to have a distinguished musical trio accompany these incredible performances. Eric Lee, a Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning musician, Keli Mahealani Viernes of Ka Momi/Kuini, and J. Keokina Kane of Pupukani‘oi/ Kaiaulu Serenaders, all notable and well-known artists from the Hawaiian islands, will lend their melodious voices.
