At the turn of the millennium, New York City was the epicenter for new, outsider voices in music and home to many an all-night rager in converted factory spaces. Like many NYC transplants of the time, Gogol Bordello frontman Eugene Hütz sought to find his place and people amidst the showers of paper flyers advertising DJ sets. The energetic and endlessly charismatic Hütz began to play traditional dance music from his homeland of Ukraine and quickly cultivated a group of like-minded immigrants looking to set the music world on fire. The rousing Scream of My Blood explodes with a bevy of live footage featuring the notoriously wild 24-year-old band at its most chaotic. Yet the tale of Gogol Bordello and Hütz is also a celebration of these artists and free thinkers who have immigrated to the U.S. without forgetting the sounds and stories that shaped them. When news breaks that Russia has invaded Ukraine, Hütz and the band voyage to Ukraine to celebrate the music of their heritage one sweaty song at a time.
