JASON YU | SOUTH KOREA | 2023 | 95 MIN | KOREAN
With a baby on the way, young wife Soo-jin (Jung Yu-mi) is disturbed to awaken one night to find her normally mild-mannered husband Hyun-su (Lee Sun-kyun, PFF28’s Parasite) sitting up and delivering bizarre, cryptic pronouncements before falling peacefully back asleep. On ensuing nights, Hyun-su doesn’t just mutter, he moves about the apartment in a trancelike state, enacting a series of increasingly strange and violent nocturnal rituals. Terrified that her husband’s sleepwalking poses a real threat to the family’s safety, Soo-jin desperately seeks a remedy. When medical interventions don’t seem to do the trick, Soo-jin begins to suspect that the real source of her husband’s ailment might be supernatural. Having worked under Korean filmmaking titans Lee Chang-dong and Bong Joon-ho, first-time feature director Jason Yu strikes out with an astonishingly assured first feature, displaying a keen ability to marry outlandish horror, black comedy, and real psychological insight.
Cast: Yu-mi Jung, Sun-kyun Lee
