ROY POWER, ADAM WEINER | USA | 2023 | 79 MIN | ENGLISH
It’s not every day that a band can claim they were listed on the Spotify playlist from music tastemaker Barack Obama. Yet Adam Weiner, frontman and visionary behind Philly’s good ol’ fashioned rock-and-roll band Low Cut Connie, was completely surprised when one of his songs made the coveted list in 2015. It’s just another bizarre moment in Weiner’s long road to completely enthralling audiences around the globe with Low Cut Connie. In Art Dealers, Weiner—who has a penchant for rock sermons and ripped shirts—and the rest of the charismatic, talented band are captured live in their prime as they mount a three-show run in New York City around the release of their newest album. Spliced between infectious garage rock revival songs, the documentary delves into the years of heartbreak, success, and laughs that contributed to the humble Weiner and his band’s evolution into the brazen, sweaty, beer-soaked revelry that is a Low Cut Connie show.
