Cinema has a treasured history of heist films, but nothing is quite like the low-stakes epic of Rodrigo Moreno’s ingenious comedic caper The Delinquents. Fed up with his daily milieu, bank manager Morán (Daniel Elías) decides to steal the exact amount of money he would earn over 25 years at his depressing daily vocation. The mild-mannered Morán is certain that he will receive a sentence of only three to four years for the crime. The catch: Morán must convince his unknowing employee Román (Esteban Bigliardi) to stash the haul while he serves his time. Their secret bond will prove to drive the men down two parallel paths filled with paranoia, betrayal, and possibly love. The epic runtime allows Morán to truly entrench himself in the characters’ worlds and finds humor in the most surprising of places.
