ALEX ROSS PERRY | USA | 2024 | 128 MIN | ENGLISH
How do you approach telling the story of the ultimate slacker band, working-class musical legends with no interest in being immortalized? Philly-native filmmaker Alex Ross Perry tackles this challenge head-on with his multi-hyphenate examination of unexpected fame. Here Perry is cultivating a Pavement reunion tour documentary; a fiction film about the band’s origins; an earnest jukebox musical; an art exhibition of relics from the band’s history making them appear all the more precious: All incarnations of fandom the director hopes will point out their own absurdity and capture the essence of Pavement’s sardonic disengagement. Featuring the talents of Tim Heidecker, Jason Schwartzman, Angela Trimbur, Zoe Lister-Jones and Joe Keery, Pavements is an unabashed, postmodern scientific experiment gone right, fusing several artistic mediums in a cacophony of sound and visuals that embody the compelling story and monumental impact of a band that really could give a f*ck.
Cast: Joe Keery, Jason Schwartzman, Nat Wolff, Fred Hechinger
