Hardworking Korean-American surgical resident Jonah (Eric Nam) is looking forward to finishing his residency at a New York hospital so that he can support his ailing mom. Frustrated with his current rotation, Jonah requests a transfer to work under Dr. Edward Harmon (Bill Camp), a highly respected heart surgeon with a reputation for chewing up and spitting out his young residents. While Harmon comes across as a supportive mentor at first, it soon becomes clear how the revered older doctor has managed to maintain his supreme position at the hospital. With a potent mix of fearmongering, intimidation, and manipulation, Harmon pushes Jonah to the brink. As Harmon’s behavior grows increasingly abusive, Jonah must decide whether to prioritize his own sanity or sacrifice himself in the single-minded pursuit of ambition. Frequently setting his dramatic face-offs within the high-stakes environment of an operating room, director Jason Park demonstrates a masterful skill for ratcheting up tension while maintaining the emotional truth of his characters in this taut, beautifully acted feature directorial debut.
Cast: Bill Camp, Eric Nam, Michelle Lee, April Grace, Adam Arkin
