ERIGE SEHIRI | TUNISIA, FRANCE, QATAR | 2025 | 92 MIN | ARABIC, FRENCH
Marie, a former journalist and Ivorian pastor, transforms her Tunisian home into a haven for those seeking safety. Among them are Naney, who arrives with her young child and carries dreams of a better life, and Jolie, a determined student who shoulders the weight of her family’s hefty expectations. Their daily rhythm eventually shifts when Kenza, a 4-year-old orphan who survived a shipwreck in the Mediterranean, joins the household. Care and responsibility deepen, but so do the cracks, as tensions surface and Marie’s sanctuary grows more complicated than she ever envisioned. Within these walls, solidarity is constantly tested against fear, fatigue, and the harsh realities beyond the front door, echoing the wider struggle of sub-Saharan migrants who live precariously on the city’s margins. Written with striking precision and directed with quiet intensity, director Erige Sehiri shapes an intimate portrait of four intertwined lives, capturing the fragile architecture of trust and the uncertain ground of belonging.
