PETER HALL, PAUL GANDERSMAN | UNITED STATES | 2025 | 84 MIN | ENGLISH
After receiving a strange and urgent video call from her brother, Lucas, aspiring filmmaker Lynn packs up her car and sets off to return to her hometown of Larkin, Texas. Internet-famous for posting creepy home movies from his childhood, the now-distraught Lucas has uncovered some new surveillance footage of someone being murdered locally in broad daylight. At first skeptical and concerned that Lucas is trying once again to go viral, Lynn cautiously agrees to help her brother seek the answers he so desperately wants. But as the pair begin to peel back the layers of the onion in their guerrilla investigation, they uncover an enigmatic old phenomenon, spanning decades, centering on a charismatic reverend and the town’s residents. First-time directing duo Paul Gandersman and Peter Hall spend the first half of the film building a palpably grimy atmosphere as an appropriate playground for what’s to come, hitting you like a ton of bricks in the back half with plot twists and blood splatters.
