JESSICA EARNSHAW | UNITED STATES | 2025 | 100 MIN | ENGLISH
In the early 1990s, Gail Eastwood-Ritchey gave birth. Decades later, DNA evidence linked her to “Geauga’s Child,” an infant whose mysterious death once drew headlines and haunted the community. The revelation begins to unravel the life she has built, shaking her marriage, her family, and her sense of identity while placing her under the harsh lights of courts, media, and public judgment. While Ritchey maintains that the child was stillborn, every institution demands accountability. Memories clash with the investigation, and private grief collides with public spectacle, leaving little space for ambiguity or silence. Directed by Jessica Earnshaw, this intimate documentary transcends the framework of crime and punishment, delving into the weight of secrecy and the complex reality of maternal love. What emerges is a portrait of a woman forced to confront the past she thought was behind her, as well as the evolving meanings of justice, forgiveness, and family.
