The Grateful Dead opened a world of musical possibility that continues to inspire generations. One branch of that legacy is Definitely Dead, a Visalia-based tribute band formed by close friends who share a deep passion for recreating—and reimagining—the Dead’s improvisational spirit.
“We stay true to the original arrangements, but also leave space for the music to take on new life,” says guitarist Marshall “MK” Kipp. “It’s a joyful experiment we love sharing with fans.” Bassist Brian Beal adds, “This music creates a real sense of camaraderie. Playing it is pure fun, and we want the audience to feel that with us.”
MK’s journey with the Grateful Dead dates back to the ’70s, when he routed his trucking jobs around the country just to catch shows. Music remained a lifelong passion through his trucking career and the founding of ATS in 1984.
