Chaplin draws upon his signature mix of humour, slapstick comedy, dark sentiment and drama to create a cinematic masterpiece that answers the question, “What happens when a stray adopts a stray?”
The Little Tramp happens upon an abandoned baby and winds up raising him as his own with all the hilarious pitfalls of raising a child brings until one day the authorities turn up to try to take him away.
Equal parts inventive, hilarious, heart warming and heart breaking, Chaplin’s expose on what it means to be a family resonates just as powerfully today, a century after release. His co-star, six-year-old Jackie Coogan, was propelled into star status by his performance.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of this incredible achievement, this film will be screened with Chaplin’s original recorded score.
