A girl (Judy Garland) is engaged to the local rich man, but meanwhile she has dreams about the legendary pirate Macoco. Meanwhile, a traveling singer (Gene Kelly) falls in love with her and to impress her he poses as the pirate. Gene Kelly's Pirate Ballet shows him at his most athletic, and is a beautiful peek into stories with dance, which become his signature style in later films like Singing in the Rain and American in Paris. A memorable number with the Nicholas Brothers adds to the fun of this rarely screened film. Catch it on the big screen!
